The biggest reason people don’t take the time to walk their dogs is because they feel as though they can’t safely walk their dogs.
Between pulling on the leash, dog aggression, and poor leash manners, I know exactly the challenges people–perhaps even you–may face on a daily basis.
The bad news…challenging leash behavior is a problem many dog owners struggle with on a daily basis.
The good news…every dog, no matter his problem, can overcome his challenges with bad leash manners.
The best news…Professional Dog Trainer and Behavioral Specialist, Doggy Dan, has put together the ultimate guide to leash training that addresses common dog walking behavior problems and provides you with solutions to make a walk around you block and enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. Enjoy the training!
I got Moe a week ago from the Humane Society. He is a 1 1/2 they say and he has opened up so much. But, there are a few things that are completely different than any other dog that I have adopted. He does not walk on a leash. He doesn’t fight it. He just lays done and will not move. I have bought a thinner/lighter leash thinking that might help put it didn’t. I am supposed to take him to the vet but I can’t drag him in ?. He is not very quizzitive. He has full range of the house and there are two rooms that he still has not gone into and I only have 5 rooms. He loves his toys, treats, being outside, playing, belly rubs and kisses. I just love him. He is the only dog so he gets my attention. I hope you will be able to help me. Thanks in advance.
Hi Jennifer, Moe sounds adorable! It warms my heart to know how much you already love this little sweetie. I’m not sure what to do about this, but I have a few ideas. First, ask the vet about this when you take (carry! Lol) him there. The vet can probably give you good ideas about this. Second, I’m wondering if a harness instead of a collar may help – maybe he doesn’t like the collar on his neck. I think harnesses are better for dogs anyway…it gives you more control and protects their neck/trachea over their lifespan. I’m wondering if treats may help. If you have a friend or family member to help, one could have Moe on the leash, and the other tempting him with treats to get him walking…further…further…to get the treat. Maybe that would get him started? Also go to Doggy Dan’s leash training in this article…once you get into Doggy Dan’s site, you can have three days of access for $1. As soon as you get in there, go to the forum where you can ask questions – you’ll get help there. I hope these ideas help. I have to say I’m considering whether Moe is just in bliss for the time being. I’m thinking he may be so very happy and grateful to be adopted, and he probably loves you so so much – and he’s content with the things he’s doing and doesn’t feel the need to venture further. With time he will probably want to explore more! Please come back and keep me posted! Debra
