Resource Guarding Dog Training

Resource guarding in dogs isn’t always a sign of dominance.  For many dogs, it can be a sign of anxiety or fear.  If your dog is a shelter or rescue dog, or if they haven’t received sufficient food in their lifetime, if another dog in the house tried to prevent your dog from eating…these are just a few reasons for resource guarding.

I’ll tell you about my personal experience with this later in this article.  But before that, I’d like to refer you to a resource guarding dog training method that’s super effective.

Here’s the good news…

It’s very likely that your dog DOES NOT NEED MORE TRAINING.  The solution is actually far simpler than that.

It’s easy once you DISCOVER HOW TO COMMUNICATE with your dog and provide a loving, supportive relationship with your dog.

Doggy Dan’s training program, The Dog Calming Code will help you focus in on THE ONE THING that you may be missing that has helped him successfully train over 37,000 dogs.Resource Guarding Dog Training

Resource Guarding Dog TrainingWhat The Dog Calming Code Will Do for You and Your Dog

1.  Sets Up a New, Health Relationship Between You and Your Dog.  Setting up a healthy relationship with your dog is one of the most important things you can do as a dog owner—and The Dog Calming Code will teach you how to do just that. When you get this right, EVERYTHING ELSE FALLS INTO PLACE.

2.  Makes Training Easier.  Once you’ve got The Dog Calming Code in place and a solid relationship set up, you’ll find your dog is LISTENING to you, wanting to FOLLOW your lead and TAKE DIRECTION.

  • 3.  The Dog Calming Code is Totally Instinctive to Dogs.  Meaning?  It’s dog training that actually MAKE SENSE TO YOUR DOG!  You’ll be able to communicate with your dog in a way that they will immediately understand.  You’ll be speaking your dog’s language, which is the easiest, most effective way of training your dog.

4.  The Dog Calming Code Builds Tolerance.  Your dog will not be reacting when something exciting suddenly occurs, like a person approaching, a child playing, a squirrel running, a friend coming over for a visit, or another dog approaching. Nor will they panic or become aggressive when someone approaches their food.  These things will be far less likely to set your dog off.

5.  The result of The Dog Calming Code is a Calm Dog.  Soon after putting The Dog Calming Code in place, you’ll notice that your dog is generally far calmer.  That’s because your dog is now focused, watching and listening to YOU.  He’ll be able to switch off, not be so alert and anxious, and be much calmer and HAPPIER about life. This stops your dog from guarding their food.

Dog Food Aggression TrainingMy Little Tazzie

I have a bit of personal experience with dog resource guarding.  Several years ago, I adopted a miniature Dachshund named Taz.  That’s her in the picture.

She was well into adulthood when I adopted her and I had her for six and a half years.  She was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever owned!

I remember when I arrived at the dog shelter to pick her up, there were well over a dozen dogs running around the shelter.  You could see little Taz felt a bit intimidated and outnumbered.

She settled into my home quite quickly and I didn’t have any behavioral issues with her until one of my cats would come anywhere NEAR her food.  She was downright aggressive about food.  She repeatedly scarfed up all the food from the cats’ dishes.

She’d eat her own food so ridiculously fast that she’d often choke a bit.  And once, when I’d purchased one of those enormous bags of dog food, she sat next to the bag in the kitchen GUARDING IT ALL NIGHT!

My heart breaks when I think about this, because I think that perhaps the reason she was guarding her food was because she’d spent time in that shelter.  It was a “dog eat dog” environment where she may have had to fight other dogs for her share of the food, or perhaps actually missed out on eating completely if she couldn’t hold her own.

Seriously.  Can you imagine?

Doggy Dan’s training techniques will help you teach your dog to overcome resource guarding.  And in the meantime, your learning how to communicate with your dog will create a super loving bond between the two of you, and your dog will happily obey you.  Always.
