How to Calm a Fearful Dog

The best way to calm a fearful dog is to recognize that your dog is actually scared because you are giving them the message that they have to be the pack leader. Most dogs are followers, not leaders.  They’re simply not able to handle the pressure of being in charge, nor should they be expected to.

Establishing yourself as the pack leader is the foundation to any success with fearful dogs. Until you recognize this and put it in place, you will never be in a position to help your dog.  Seriously, stepping up as pack leader is the most kind, loving thing you’ll ever do for your dog!

  1. It never occurred to me that dogs do not want to be the pack leader and I say this because I know that they have a “territorial complex.”

Thank you for this valuable information. Now it all makes sense to me why my dog feels uneasy every time we visit a family or friend for the first time. Or when he sees another dog at the park or while we go for a jog around the block. It comes as a surprise to me that my dog suddenly becomes uncomfortable and slowly goes behind me. I know my dog to be brave, confident, and playful but suddenly becomes fearful.

Obviously, I do not have the skills to train my dog and make him obey me as the pack leader. I will be checking out the Dog Calming Code and I hope it will be easy for me to follow ☺.

By the way, how long, on average, does it take to train my dog? And is it a manual that is easy to follow and apply?

    1. It’s super easy to follow and consists of 5 things to start doing with your dog. You’ll see results quickly, possibly just days depending on your dog. Your dog will be more calm and less skittish.
