About Dog Separation Anxiety

Dog separation anxiety is a serious issue because it can be terribly upsetting to your dog, and also to you.  If your dog is experiencing separation anxiety, then it’s clear he’s not happy, calm and content – he may even be fearful – and this is not healthy for your dog.

I feel the most effective way to help a dog with separation anxiety is to do Pack Leader Training.  This is where you take simple steps to teach your dog that YOU are the pack leader, not HIM.  As soon as your dog sees that you’re the one in charge, you’re the decision maker, then he’ll know that he doesn’t have to be.  That alone is the most effective way to solve virtually any dog behavioral issue.  Dogs need a pack leader.  They need to know that they can follow your lead and just let you make the decisions.  They need to know that YOU are in charge of providing food, of protecting the house, of protecting the family…if your dog knows this, then he can finally calm down and relax, and that includes being able to relax while you’re away from home.  My recommendation is to sign up for The Online Dog Trainer, a dog training website that will teach you step-by-step how to do Pack Leader Training.
